The 2012 Eurovision Song Contest was held in Baku,Azerbaijan and proved to be a huge victory of Sweden, whose entry “Euphoria” by Loreen won by a handslide.
European Olympic Games 2015
Azerbaijan hosted the first-ever European Games in its capital city of Baku. The 16-day gathering features more than 6,000 athletes from 50 European National Olympic Committees, competed in 253 events in 20 sports. The 2015 European Games follow in the tradition of other continental games established by Olympic Committees, such as the Pan-American Games and the Asian Games. Islamic Solidarity Games
The fourth Islamic Solidarity Games hold in Baku in 2017 with hosts Azerbaijan topping the medals table after a relentess 11-day long battle with neighbours Turkey.
Oddly enough, the Azeri team came up empty handed in terms of gold medals on the final day of action, the only time that had happened during the Games.
But on the back of a superb Sunday which culminated in football gold, Azerbaijan were all but assured of top spot with a 75-68 lead and just 11 golds to be disputed on Monday.
